Mahr’s service facility opened in January of 1992. We clean, repair and test gear pumps from any manufacturer. All metering pumps received for repair are subjected to a rigorous inspection.
Steps in the typical pump service process:
- Receipt – Our receiving department documents each pump by serial number and customer, and assigns a control number for tracking purposes.
- Pyrolysis – To remove hardened polymer products, pumps are heated in a ‘burn-out’ oven for several hours at up to 900ºF.
- Disassembly – Each pump is kept in its own box, so that parts are never mixed from pump to pump.
- Glass bead blasting – This process removes carbon residue from pyrolysis, without damaging critical dimensions or tolerances of the parts.
- Ultrasonic cleaning – Parts are soaked in a heated, caustic ultrasonic tank, then double-rinsed in clean ultrasonic baths, then dried thoroughly.
- Measurement – Mahr’s own world-renowned measuring equipment is used to check the critical tolerances of all internal parts down to the micrometer.
- Adjustment – Gears and plates are lapped if necessary, then re-cleaned and re-measured.
- Re-assembly – Worn or damaged parts are replaced, and the pump is rebuilt.
- Hydraulic testing – Using test stands made by Mahr, we measure the pump’s flow rate under various outlet pressures to determine possible slippage.
- Hot testing – The pump is heated and torque checked, to ensure ease of rotation at operating temperature.
- Delivery – Pumps are carefully packed and shipped back to the customer.
